I shared this on FB but I wanted to make sure to put it here too so I can always remember this about my Eli...
Months and months before we found out we were having another baby, we were at
church on a Sunday and all the kids were in 'big church' because it was
Family Day. During praise and worship, our pastor said, "If you have a
need, bring it to the alter for prayer." Eli was making his way out
into the aisle to go to the alter. I leaned down and asked him where he
was going. He said, "Pastor Wooten said that if you have a need, bring it to the alter and I NEED a baby sister!!"
Every night during bedtime prayers, he would ask us to pray for God to
give him a sister. Jay and I weren’t convinced that we were ready for
another baby so we would just pray that if it was God’s will for our
family to grow, then He would make a way. I would even catch Eli
sometimes with his eyes sealed shut and praying at different times
throughout the day. After weeks of praying, he looked at me so upset
and said, "Mom, I have prayed and prayed for a baby sister. How come God
hasn't answered my prayer?" I talked to him about God’s timing and
that maybe it wasn’t God’s will for our family to grow. He was so
excited when he found out that we were having another baby and even more
excited with today’s news. That sweet boy had his sister in his heart
long before we even knew about her. The faith of a child!
